This blog explores the dynamics of women’s and men’s access to and use of animal health services (AHS) among pastoralist communities, using experiences from pastoralists in Kenya and Ethiopia. Women, who are critical to livestock management, face significant barriers in accessing these services, including cultural norms, lack of resources, and limited mobility. Addressing this gap is key to enhancing resilience in pastoralist livelihoods, as healthier livestock contribute directly to economic stability and food security.
It highlights successful interventions, such as training women as community animal health workers and integrating gender-sensitive approaches into animal health services, among others.
