This wiki codifies good practice in value chain development and integrating food security. Food security is defined by USAID as: “When all people at all times have both physical and economic access to sufficient food to meet their dietary needs for a productive and healthy life.” Food insecurity including malnutrition is both a cause and a result of poverty. As a result, value chain projects aiming to reduce poverty cannot ignore food security.
This wiki provides a synthesis of currently available information about the linkages between food security and value chain initiatives, with the intent of providing guidance to those seeking to integrate food security considerations with the value chain approach.
