Agriculture stands as the cornerstone of Kenya’s economy, employing nearly 40 percent of the population and contributing significantly to the nation’s GDP, constituting a third of the total. However, the agricultural inputs market faces challenges that hinder its optimal functioning. The primary issues revolve around the short-term focused practices within the inputs supply chain and deficiencies in the governance and regulation of the seed sector.
In response to these challenges, Kenya Markets Trust (KMT) launched strategic interventions to foster long-term, customer-oriented business strategies throughout the supply chain and address issues related to seed industry governance and regulation. This case study examines how KMT’s initiatives contributed to the enhancement of Kenya’s agricultural landscape and the overall performance of the sector.
