Implemented from 2022 to 2025, IDH’s East Africa Living Income Program (EALI) supported 29,318 coffee grower households in Uganda and Kenya to improve incomes and strengthen resilience. The endline evaluation found that incomes increased by 134%, with an estimated 44% of this growth associated with program interventions. While favorable coffee market conditions contributed to higher incomes, the results show that sustainable income growth depends on a combination of diversification, cost management, productivity improvements, market access, and finance. The evaluation also highlights distinct pathways to impact for smallholders, women, and youth, reinforcing the value of a targeted, multi-driver approach to closing living income gaps.
